Cayley Krkljes 4/24/2019 11:05 AMI'm excited to see how many vegan meals I was actually able to eat by the end of the 22 days and the impact I had through my daily actions totalled up. This challenge really helped me build healthy habits not only for myself, but for the environment around it. -
Cayley Krkljes 4/21/2019 7:07 PMIt is nearing the end of the challenge and although I did not reach as many points as I thought I did, I learned a lot more through this process than I expected. I can still eat very tasty dishes without including meat or dairy (especially since I found a vegan cheese I am in love with). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social JusticeWhen family planning focuses on healthcare provision and meeting the expressed needs of women, it results in empowerment, equality, and well-being, and the benefits to the planet are side effects. Why is family planning an important civil rights consideration?
Cayley Krkljes 4/18/2019 8:18 AMFamily planning is an important civil rights consideration because attacking a woman's reproductive rights is an attack on women especially considering that those making those decisions about what women should do with their bodies are men. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues? Why do these issues matter to you?
Cayley Krkljes 4/18/2019 8:15 AMThese are human health and social justice issues because factories are put near people who do not have the means to protect themselves. These issues are important to me because I am an environmentalist because I know it will benefit us in the long run and people should not have to be subjected to this kind of pollution. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Cayley Krkljes 4/18/2019 8:12 AMI am refusing plastic from restaurants and shops when I don't need them like plastic straws and plastic lids. I reuse plastic cups when I can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsHow are people responding to the statistics you're sharing on social media?
Cayley Krkljes 4/18/2019 8:09 AMI'm receiving many likes from the posts as well as many shares, so through my simple sharing of statistics even more people are being educated than I had expected. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Cayley Krkljes 4/03/2019 11:25 AMThere is both bamboo cooking utensils and makeup brushes that I will purchase instead of the plastic ones I usually do. If not available, there is also some made from recycled paper and plastic that are more sustainable. -
Cayley Krkljes 4/02/2019 7:13 PMI'm so excited to see how this challenge is going to change my daily habits and how much I'm going to learn throughout the process. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Cayley Krkljes 4/02/2019 7:11 PMI think one of the reasons that people in North America eat so much meat is that it is so accessible to us. There are very few vegan restaurants that I can name. It also has to do with the fact that it is so normalized by the media in America and people are blind to how much is wasted when we eat meat. -
Cayley Krkljes 4/02/2019 7:07 PMI joined this challenge because I thought it was a good opportunity to learn more about what habits I can encorporate into my life to become more ecofriendly. Although I would love to do as many actions as I can, I tried to choose actions that were plausible for me being a college student.
