REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Taylor LaPeters 4/22/2019 1:21 PMThere are many different things that need to happen in order for a community to become completely sustainable. One of the biggest ones that need to change is that people seriously need to stop eating meat or at least beef and try and eat a vegan meal at least once a week. The production of beef is the main methane producer around the world and it is one of the worst contributors to global warming and needs to be stopped or at least reduced immensely. I understand that most people can't just give up meat, I am one of those people because of allergies I have, but the reduction of eating meat is key. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Taylor LaPeters 4/18/2019 11:24 AMThis action actually worked well with the timing for a paper I was doing for one of my classes about Wave and Tidal Energy. I have always known some general information about Wave and Tidal Energy but when I was doing more research I realized that I was barely scratching the surface with what I previously knew. The one thing that surprised me was that there are actually some wave and tidal energy system working around the world however its just so expensive to implement everywhere. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Taylor LaPeters 4/18/2019 11:17 AMI have already been trying to reducing my food waste for a few years since I have started living alone and it has been going pretty well. I also recycle as much as I can as well but through this action I was able to learn that not everything I think is recyclable actually is. I was pretty sad that I had been recycling wrong for a while but now that I know, I will be able to know that everything I recycle is actually going to be recycled and not just thrown into the trash. I do also need to try and incorporate repurposing things but I still need to do more research on what exactly I can repurpose in my apartment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Taylor LaPeters 4/11/2019 6:55 AMI used to not necessarily care very much about the expiration dates on different products because I never really the one buying all of the groceries or if I bought too much of something for myself my roommates would eat it before it expired. However, when I started living by myself two years ago I realized very quickly that a lot of my food was going bad and that I needed to really pay attention to the sell by, use by, and best buy dates so I don't end up wasting food.
