REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Lenore Lazaras-South 4/24/2019 10:26 AMIn Asheville, NC a building that would be optimum for installing micro wind turbines would be the BB&T building. It's tall, wide, and very new, and sturdy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Lenore Lazaras-South 4/24/2019 9:59 AMNorth Americans eat more meat than other countries mostly because our food system is established, cheap, and quantitative. This makes it very easy to find cheap meat in large portions, at a grocery store or restaurant. By doing this, the overall values, especially those of food and meat decreases significantly. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsConcrete is a good example of a material that most of us encounter every day, but may its carbon footprint is not obvious. What other everyday materials might have a large carbon footprint? How can you find out more?
Lenore Lazaras-South 4/24/2019 9:54 AMSome other everyday materials that have a large carbon footprint are things like cheese, milk, meat, and electronics. Dairy products take a surprising amount of CO2 to generate, similarly with meat products. Electronics take electricity, and they use servers and networks. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Lenore Lazaras-South 4/24/2019 9:30 AMKnowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates helps me to make better decisions about my food. Knowing what the sell-by date is and what it means helps me know which foods to choose when buying them so I can get the freshest and best tasting. The best by date is mostly a suggestion because it shows when the food would be the freshest and of the highest quality to be consumed by. The use by date shows the last date recommended for consumption, it's determined my the manufacturer of the product; it tells me when I should finish it by, so I don't waste any of it.
