Planting in general is good for the environment. Let's say you plant some fruit in a garden. You wouldn't have to go to the store to buy fruits and you would have access to it with driving a car to the store AND you wouldn't need to use plastic bags to contain the fruit. If you don't use a car to get to the store, you can prevent CO2 from going into the atmosphere, which could possibly make the greenhouse effect stronger. If you don't use plastic bags to contain the fruit, you would save the ocean because the plastic wouldn't become pollution and marine life would not get harmed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

When you eat less food, there is more food left to share with other people who might need it. We can also make smaller portions, and we would use less ingredients. With the ingredients we don't use, we can give it away to others.

Buildings and Cities Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

What I enjoyed about the walks was that I could get fresh air and could enjoy the nice scenery around the city.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

Fertilizer motivates me to change my behavior because if I compost, I can make more fertilizer, and then I can use it to grow more plants and vegetables for my family.

Do you compost at home?  We are trying to get more composting done at the school as well.  Maybe you can help us organize this better?
