Cynthia MAnycolors 4/26/2019 6:37 AMIt helped me be more aware of my actions in a daily way, it changed my behavior somewhat and reinforced things I was already doing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/21/2019 10:24 AMI am changing my choices, if I am out I try to bring my metal reusable drink container, with bamboo straw, with me, but if I haven't got it I will buy a glass container, refuse a straw, or ask for a reusable drink container. If buying a large bottle of juice I only buy with glass bottles now. I bring reusable bags to the grocery store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/20/2019 7:23 PMI have bought bamboo toothbrushes, and straw for drink, and cutting boards in the past, and will now keep an eye out, if I am going to buy something, to try and find it made of bamboo. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/18/2019 8:56 PMThat was interesting. Makes sense that ground meat goes bad quicker. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/15/2019 9:18 AMI looked at an online energy audit and evaluated my apartment. Of the things I have any control over; we use low-energy light bulbs and keep lights off when possible. I don't leave my laptop plugged in. In summer I put foil over the west windows to keep sun out and reduce need for a fan (I reuse same foil). It's a very old building and the windows are leaky, but the heat is centralized steam heat and does not come on based on the actual temperature of my apartment. -
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/15/2019 6:41 AMSpokane Women's Farms is having a fund raiser at Fruit Hill Farms May 12th. They help women in or from domestic violence situations. -
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/14/2019 4:06 PMToday I added to the compost, bought organic food for lunch and dinner, got the first asparagus from garden. Ate a meatless breakfast and lunch. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/13/2019 3:30 PMI could do further research and see how feasible geothermal energy use is in my area. -
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/12/2019 7:54 PMI am getting more used to the bus again these last 2 weeks. Enjoying not spending gas and wear and tear on my truck, enjoying knowing I am polluting less. -
Cynthia MAnycolors 4/10/2019 7:13 AMFun so far, looking forward to more!
