REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Makaila Mullin 4/17/2019 4:22 PMI am a big coffee drinker. I also have my fair share of chocolate. I should look for healthier and more ecofriendly substitutes to try out! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Makaila Mullin 4/07/2019 10:26 AMI am on a weight loss journey that consists of counting my calories and portions. Through this I’ve been monitoring my food waste and using it to set my portions. This also helps with financial decisions. Now that I am eating smaller portions and monitoring my food waste I can better decide how much food to purchase. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsHow are people responding to the statistics you're sharing on social media?
Makaila Mullin 4/07/2019 10:23 AMI shared the Ted Talk link on my Facebook. I have a lot of college friends on my Facebook who I err in a group that focused on environment and a group that focused on gender equality. Those friends have been responding well! Some of my friends on Facebook don’t want to watch the videos or even discuss topics like these.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Makaila Mullin 4/04/2019 6:43 PMFinancially, I would like to have an electric/hybrid car because it can be cheaper. People I know that have a hybrid car boast about the small amount of money they have to spend on filling their gas tanks. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow can you take your commitment to sustainable living beyond yourself? How can you, personally, work toward broader change?
Makaila Mullin 4/02/2019 7:30 PMToday I helped hold a meeting with the school I work at with the company I work for! We discussed recycling and how to get kids to really make the recycling project their own and create a cultural identity of recycling in their school. I think education to the next generations is the best way to approach change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues? Why do these issues matter to you?
Makaila Mullin 4/02/2019 7:25 PMThese issues are human health and social justice issues because traditional cooking methods are ruled by big companies for profit. These companies can sway outcomes of legislature to keep these ways of energy being used instead of cleaner and safer ways of energy that would benefit people’s physical and financial health .
