I love supporting small farmers and businesses! It makes our community stronger and we are able to create better relationships with the people in our town. You can get better quality from locals rather then buying from huge companies who produce in mass quantities. Check out some local farmers in our area!!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I've been keeping a log for the past week! It helps me save money and invest it for bigger, more impactful purchases, such as saving up for college or redecorating my room!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

By learning the difference between use by, sell by and best by, i was able to create less waste and keep edible food that hasn't gone bad! Knowing the difference allows my to be more conscious about what I purchase and know what is still safe to eat, even if the label seems confusing.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

Water, energy and land all motivate me because these are - to me - the biggest problems regarding food waste. An estimated 1/3 of edible food is wasted each year, which is then put in landfills which takes up loads of space and uses nonrenewable energy! Reducing food waste can lower greenhouse gas emissions, which can help save water!
