  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Eliminate Toxic Plastics
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Jim Onesios's avatar
    Jim Onesios 4/24/2019 3:02 PM
I do not take straws anymore when buying a drink and when handed one I do not use it.
I use my own coffee cup at home and in the office and when buying coffee outside I try to purchase from places that use paper instead of Styrofoam
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Jim Onesios's avatar
    Jim Onesios 4/11/2019 6:45 AM
I try to walk when possible instead of using my car.  I walk to the stores locally in my community whenever I can
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Are bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?

Great technology which will be increasingly become more popular.  Talk about early trials,  I remember many years back when NYPA installed a small tidal generator underwater in the East River near Hellgate

Had to go into NYC today.  Walked up stairs, didn't take escalators or elevators and walked the long way to get places.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

    Jim Onesios's avatar
    Jim Onesios 4/03/2019 9:41 AM
Eating more slowly gives the food in your stomach time to register with your brain and you will eat less which can help you NOT gain weight.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Choose Recycled Paper
Good job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?

    Jim Onesios's avatar
    Jim Onesios 4/03/2019 7:17 AM
We use recycled plotter paper here at NYPA and I always buy recycled paper products for my home printer
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
