REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Fiona ORourke 4/24/2019 1:46 AMI failed to reorganise an air trip from Ireland to Paris. There was a ferry and train option but one of the connections only went twice a day so if I missed it I wouldn't have made the meeting at all. Then my child had a hospital appointment I had to get home on time for. Replacing flying from Ireland is a challenge but fortunately my family are in Britain so I can ferry there. And I don't usually have to fly for work. To offset I sponsored 10 trees with Plant for the Planet -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Express My SupportWhat do you like most about biking in your city? What would you like to improve?
Fiona ORourke 4/24/2019 1:42 AMI like getting the exercise and knowing it is not creating more emissions. My town is not well set up for cycling so I am nervous about safety especially when cycling with my children -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Contact your Elected OfficialsDo you have any personal connections to a farm or farmland? If so, what are they? What feelings are evoked for you when thinking about declining farmland?
Fiona ORourke 4/24/2019 1:40 AMI have mixed feelings about farmland as farming can be a pressure on climate and water quality -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Explore Other Food SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Fiona ORourke 4/10/2019 5:22 AMI was interested to learn that solutions for mitigation evolved from solutions for increasing food production - usually there is a tension between a sustainable approach and productivity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Fiona ORourke 4/09/2019 5:01 AMMy main GHG emissions are transport and home energy. I'm saving to buy an electric car to replace my petrol car - I've found watching waste and generally buying mean I have more money each month to save -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Fiona ORourke 4/08/2019 1:38 AMBiking put me in a good mood but my town is not well set up for cycling so I sense motorists were getting frustrated with my lack of speed... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Fiona ORourke 4/08/2019 1:37 AMPhysically because they clean the air and planting them is good exercise. Mentally because taking a practical action makes you feel less hopeless. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Conduct Virtual MeetingsHow can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?
Fiona ORourke 4/03/2019 5:35 AMI've joined our green team so that I can monitor our transport and mileage statistics and help teams who are struggling to reduce them. My work team has made a business case for better VC facilities -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice DonateHow are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues? Why do these issues matter to you?
Fiona ORourke 4/03/2019 5:33 AMBlack carbon and particulate matter contribute to poor air quality, which is contributing to health problems across the world, particularly in larger cities.
