REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Christine Parker-Morales 4/08/2019 9:29 AMHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change? It takes every drop of water to fill the ocean, and no action is meaningless. In Drawdown, the article Why Bother talks about starting a garden, not because one garden is going to change the world, but because it will change YOU and how you think and act day to day. Just from my actions so far during this EcoChallenge I see myself making more of an effort, and if we all do that we can really make a difference. -
Christine Parker-Morales 4/06/2019 4:40 PMI had no idea shedding from synthetic fibers like fleece created so much plastic waste in our oceans https://ecocult.com/can-polyester-microfibers-water/ -
Christine Parker-Morales 4/03/2019 9:46 AMI enjoyed a delicious veggie salad with tofu from Whole Foods while dropping off my #5 plastics for recycling! -
Christine Parker-Morales 3/14/2019 12:01 PMStarted reading Drawdown, and since a Plant-Based Diet is in the top 10 solutions I plan to go VB6 for the EcoChallenge (vegan before 6pm). Hoping I have the willpower! -
Christine Parker-Morales 3/12/2019 6:49 PMHave you heard of #TrashTag ? Cool stuff! https://9gag.com/gag/a3Qydd3 -
Christine Parker-Morales 3/12/2019 9:49 AMI'm only now realizing how much of the plastic I get is NOT #1 or 2. Aside from the GImme 5 dropoff at Whole Foods, another possible workaround is to recycle through the Town of Babylon (just called and they take #1-7). More info at https://www.townofbabylon.com/faq.aspx?TID=81 -
Christine Parker-Morales 3/12/2019 9:47 AMIn case anyone was wondering about bottle caps on plastics #1 and 2, just called Brookhaven and they ask that caps be removed as they are not generally recyclable. -
Christine Parker-Morales 3/11/2019 12:44 PMDid you know those air-filled bags in your packages can be recycled with plastic bags at the grocery store? https://www.how2recycle.info/sdo -
Christine Parker-Morales 3/06/2019 12:37 PMGreat news! While the Curby program does not accept plastics other than #1 or #2, I just discovered the Gimme 5 program that takes #5 plastics. I contacted Whole Foods at Lake Grove and they have a drop-off bin! More info on the program is available at https://www.preserve.eco/pages/gimme5-overview -
