REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?
Isabella Perillo 4/24/2019 11:54 AMI live in the countryside where the closest supermarket is 20 minutes away. I can't drive yet, so an electric bike would allow me to help out my mom by getting groceries. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Isabella Perillo 4/24/2019 7:45 AMA sustainable community to me would be a community where we waste, food, clothes, etc, less and figure out a way to use technology without harming the world while we get the resources needed. In order to waste less, companies need to make the amount of food and objects that will actually be sold and not just thrown away. Objects need to be made to last longer, instead of being made to be thrown away or replaced within a year or two. We should also reuse as many products as we can. As for preventing us from harming the world, we can do the same thing, only harvest the elements and resources that we need at the moment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Isabella Perillo 4/23/2019 11:26 AMSomething might be best by one date but could actually be used by another date. If I know that I can still eat a product even though it says it's not in it's best state, I can prevent myself from throwing something away that can still be eaten. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Isabella Perillo 4/23/2019 11:21 AMI try to use less plastic, or if I do, I reuse it. I try to waste less food and from fall to summer, I create a compost. I try to not use my car unless I absolutely need to. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseWhat did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?
Isabella Perillo 4/23/2019 11:16 AMI learned that many roads nearby, or in states nearby, are named after indigenous people. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Isabella Perillo 4/19/2019 8:06 PMGoing on a daily walk helps calm me down. I also enjoy going on daily walks because it helps remind me how beautiful nature is. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Isabella Perillo 4/19/2019 8:04 PMThe loss of water and land motivate me the most because the loss of water could lead to humans dying and it also leads to the land dying which harms us. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Isabella Perillo 4/19/2019 10:18 AMInstead of using a plane, my family and I drove to Montreal. People should use cars to their advantages instead of using an airplane. Even if it takes a few more hours to get someplace, you're helping the world by driving.
