REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
David Pollock 4/24/2019 6:39 AMI never heard of biomass technology before doing this challenge. I always thought that burning carbon was bad for the environment, but after reading about how that school in Oregon is heating there school cleanly, that made me rethink my hole opinions on the subject. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
David Pollock 4/24/2019 6:13 AMPlaces that microturbines could be placed in our own cities is on top of large buildings like the BB&T building, or other large buildings. They could also be put on top of regular peoples houses just to help them out with their electricity bill -
David Pollock 4/23/2019 7:18 PMI learned more about what you can recycle, and now I apply that knowledge to help our planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
David Pollock 4/23/2019 7:16 PMWhat most motivates me to compost is to make fertilizer for my plants. It also cuts down on water waste because all of the food I can't eat needed water to be made, so if I compost it the water would not be wasted. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
David Pollock 4/23/2019 7:13 PMWhat I'm doing to implement my "R's" into my life is to always check the plastics I use to make sure they are recyclable. I will also repurpose boxes I get from the mail, and keep them and use them later to ship other things to others. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
David Pollock 4/23/2019 7:08 PMWhat I did for to improve a bus stop is I cut off pieces of ivy that were growing around it. This will make the stop more appealing to people, and maybe make them want to take public transportation more. It will also make the stop more visible, and not just an overgrown plant area.
