The abundance of rich soils for pasture and feed for livestock allows for the low production cost of producing animal meat products.  In the U.S. there is a long history and tradition of consuming these renewable food products.  Following a diet that includes both meat protein and vegetables with moderate consumption of grain and dairy is the healthiest diet possible.

There are significant populations which due economic considerations or the remote locations in which they live are forced to cook and warm their homes by burning fossil fuels or bio-matter.  These methods of creating heat generate tremendous quantities of carbon emissions.
