REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?
Claire Raper 4/23/2019 4:48 AMFirst step to supporting women is to buy locally. Most of our local businesses are owned by women, if not entirely, at least by a family. It helps our community grow too! Who wants to live near a factory or warehouse? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Claire Raper 4/23/2019 4:47 AMAmericans have easy access to meat without any knowledge of where it comes from or how they are treated. Knowing the realities of our food chain and the lack of sustainability would be a great benefit to changing the way we eat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?
Claire Raper 4/23/2019 4:45 AMLightbulbs were so easy, next challenge is windows. Pricey change but worth it. I hope to either donate the old ones or turn them into a greenhouse. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Claire Raper 4/23/2019 4:45 AMAs I make more energy efficient choices to my home, my bills lower and it’s easier to keep my home warm/cool all year! Win/win! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? Share some of the learning with your friends!
Claire Raper 4/22/2019 6:09 AMFamily planning gives the power to people (women and men) to control the direction of their lives, keeping more out of poverty. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Claire Raper 4/21/2019 5:35 PMEating smaller portions helps lose weight and save food. Not to mention keep a better food budget. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesHow does improving your home's energy efficiency help you better live out your values?
Claire Raper 4/19/2019 7:41 AMWe own an old house and upgrading takes a lot of time but it’s worthwhile for the budget and the environment. We also try to donate items to the local restore for others to use. Or reuse items ourselves as we can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Claire Raper 4/16/2019 2:32 PMI hate throwing away food. And while I compost as much as I can, having no waste is always the goal. With ever changing tastes, entertaining and unexpected needs, it’s hard to know what we will need. Sometimes we do better than others, but it’s something we keep in mind. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Claire Raper 4/15/2019 1:03 PMI’ve loved planting trees native to our area. And ones that also produce food for our family and community. It’s fantastic for our environment and great for all of us. -
Claire Raper 4/15/2019 1:01 PMEven on break, gotta keep up the momentum!
