  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transport Test Drive an Electric Bike
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?

I don't really have any kind of distance to travel that is small enough to bike, but I could try biking more often to get exercise!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

    Lily Raper's avatar
    Lily Raper 4/11/2019 8:30 AM
I've been walking up my mountain when I can, and it's quite enjoyable. I've noticed some trash, which is an issue, but mostly it's beautiful forest.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Contact your Elected Officials
Do you have any personal connections to a farm or farmland? If so, what are they? What feelings are evoked for you when thinking about declining farmland?

    Lily Raper's avatar
    Lily Raper 4/11/2019 8:29 AM
If we lose our farmland, not only do we lose beautiful spaces, but many farmers and workers lose their jobs when they lose their land.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Lily Raper's avatar
    Lily Raper 4/11/2019 8:28 AM
We should install micro turbines right on campus! They'd be a great addition to our solar panels.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? Share some of the learning with your friends!

So many women don't have access to contraception or safe abortions, and in many cases, this prevents them from achieving what they want to (making enough money, taking the jobs they want to).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Lily Raper's avatar
    Lily Raper 4/08/2019 7:12 AM
We should invest in geothermal energy in volcanic areas, by contacting elected officials and donating money.

I didn't get to do a lot of drawdown things this weekend, but I tried to be conscious of my plastic spoon and plastic straw use.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Lily Raper's avatar
    Lily Raper 4/05/2019 7:20 AM
I learned about the amount of women who want access to contraception but don't get it. I learned that in 49 countries, there aren't laws against domestic violence. Women smallholders don't receive the same education and resources as men.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Communicate With My Elected Officials
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Lily Raper's avatar
    Lily Raper 4/05/2019 7:07 AM
Energy is a huge part of our lives, and yet we often don't think about where it comes from. So many of our power sources aren't renewable. So why aren't we taking action? I care about renewable energy to make transportation, heating, and essentially our everyday lives easier and more sustainable.

What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Lily Raper 4/04/2019 7:18 AM
I learned that even though electric cars have less CO2 output, they're still comfortable, fast, and efficient!
