REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Janae Reasoner 4/21/2019 11:43 PMToday on Easter I walked with my family down to the river and enjoyed the scenery. It certainly is a lot more different than driving because you get to experience more of what you see and observe more. I really enjoyed it today and we saved the air from being polluted by our cars! -
Janae Reasoner 4/17/2019 10:24 PMI went for my walk today and enjoyed some music. I find it interesting that humans have such an emotional connection to music and it has never changed since humanity began. The music brought me to contemplate about music and its effects with society. I am also glad we have cloud music now where we do not have to manufacture as many CD's or cassettes or vinyls to enjoy it. Music is going strong in the digital age and has accompanied humanity since forever. I never paid too much attention to that before today. Music seems very natural in that way. -
Janae Reasoner 4/15/2019 9:58 PMi made sure to get my walk in today, so I brought my dogs along with me this time. Walking with my dogs brings me to think I can be in harmony with nature and live a more sustainable life. A lot of other people walked their dogs today as well and it is good to see people caring for their animals well. Having animals willingly walk along beside us and seeing it reminds me that we can achieve harmony with nature. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Janae Reasoner 4/10/2019 10:21 PMI did not know that cultivating palm oil is hurting the population of orangutans that could become extinct within ten years. There are other substitutes for oils than palm oil, and hopefully relocation and conservation efforts will work for these beautiful apes. Palm oil is more in demand on the eastern side of the world, and hopefully the demand will decrease and the cultivation will slow down. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Properly Dispose of RefrigerantsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Janae Reasoner 4/07/2019 8:50 PMRecycling a refrigerator or coolant is a far better option than just bringing it to a landfill. These cooling systems contain a substance called freon that damages the ozone layer and contains other damaging chemicals. Having it recycled for scrap is best, and the average fee is $10-50 which is not really too bad. I searched for local services that do this, and 1-800-GOT-JUNK? is right here in Portland and there is also Junk King in Tigard. They remove the fridge from your house and recycle it properly. Recycling an old fridge will help keep dangerous chemicals out of the atmosphere! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Janae Reasoner 4/06/2019 9:55 PMTidal energy is an innovative renewable energy resource that is just beginning to happen. Since water is denser than air, it produces more energy than wind turbines and it does not pollute anything. However, it is difficult to place these water turbines because of the corrosive environment to the metal and they are expensive to install. But water turbines have massive potential and they are still in the beginning stages of development and efficiency. Soon enough, there will be more of these in our coastal waters and it will serve as the best renewable energy resource, and hopefully eliminate the pollution generators of power plants. -
Janae Reasoner 4/04/2019 8:36 PMI walked a lot today, and I will be walking to work tomorrow morning:). I am only going to ride in the car when I have to! So far, it is going great and I am getting lots of exercise (I usually walk for longer than 15 minutes). I am on my way for a healthier lifestyle for myself as well as the benefiting the health of the planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Janae Reasoner 4/03/2019 5:00 PMAlright, so I took a walk for a lot longer than fifteen minutes. I spent more than double that when walking.I enjoyed the sunshine and the air, as well as walking by where all the huge trees stand. They sure are beautiful! I think a good infrastructure change would be if more people owned electric or hybrid cars to protect the trees and animals, but that is up to the pricing of vehicles these days. If those were cheaper, more people would buy them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Janae Reasoner 4/03/2019 1:43 PMIm considering a PHEV (once I could actually afford one) because it cuts the entire tailpipe CO2 emission in half, from 410 of the national average down to the 200s and even below that in some PHEV's. A PHEV has more range than a car entirely electric, and overall these are nice looking cars! Although I researched the prices of these and most of them were $25k or above. More people would switch if it was cheaper. Besides the downside of the price, PHEV's are really nice looking cars and they are safer for the environment than the average vehicle.
