REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Kelly Reynolds 4/03/2019 8:47 PMHonestly part of it is probably that it is so available. It's tasty, and you can find meat everywhere, and a lot of people don't think about how it has more of an environmental impact. Plus, there is sort of a cultural component to it - the cowboy or rancher, for example, is a very American image. Eating meat is advertised as a "manly" thing in many cases, whereas vegetarian meals seem like something for a dainty lady or a hippie. As environmentalists we may have a different perspective, but I think this is another component to the views and behaviors people have in our country. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Kelly Reynolds 4/03/2019 8:42 PMI would use this extra money donating to a church or charity - or maybe to buy a bike or go on a weekend trip to Galveston! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Kelly Reynolds 4/03/2019 8:39 PMEating smaller portions can often be healthier, especially given that I have a sweet tooth. :P -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Kelly Reynolds 4/03/2019 8:37 PMToday on my walk I saw these bluebonnets! People taking the time to care for their landscapes and plant native flowers such as these is really nice. I saw butterflies, bees, squirrels, and birds on my walk. Today I walked from my office to a restaurant to pick up a bite to a local nature center where I went on a lunchtime bird walk. Having places close by to walk to makes it possible to walk on my lunch break rather than drive! -
Kelly Reynolds 3/27/2019 1:52 PMI accidentally created two profiles, hence there are two "Kelly Reynolds" on our team. My bad! There is only one of me! ;P
