  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Action Track: Social Justice Donate
How are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues? Why do these issues matter to you?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/24/2019 1:26 PM
Environmental issues are wholly wrapped up in issues of social justice.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/24/2019 1:15 PM
I had never heard of silvopasture prior to researching it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/24/2019 1:14 PM
Financial waste is always a big motivator because of my financial situation. However, I also feel that wasting water is one of the mos egregious wastes because water is such a precious and essential resource, but is not properly distributed among peoples.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Support Women-Owned Businesses
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/23/2019 2:34 PM
By providing more opportunities for women, and therefore more opportunities for success, the money we invest in such women becomes reinvested in the community by way of their accomplishments.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Host a Film Screening
What is the next step beyond raising awareness of women's and gender equality issues?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/23/2019 2:33 PM
The next step is taking action and educating people on how to address it realistically in the home, workplace, and on a broader more systemic level.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass techonology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/23/2019 2:25 PM
I had never really looked into biomass technology prior to this challenge. I was pleasantly surprised to learn how accessible it can be.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Research Heat Pumps
Why is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/15/2019 10:32 AM
Climate change is something we all have a stake in. However, it has to be viewed from a broader perspective than simply our personal stake; I see climate change as a social justice issue as well that can open up opportunities for improvement across all sectors of our global society
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/10/2019 12:22 PM
I grew up in a city where public transportation is very accessible. I have used public transportation my whole life to get around and although it can have its drawbacks, I feel empowered being able to navigate public transport and reduce my carbon footprint.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Fix Leaky Faucets
What are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/10/2019 12:20 PM
My roommates and I have pledged to take shorter showers to save water (and money!!).
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

    Molly Riordan's avatar
    Molly Riordan 4/10/2019 12:18 PM
There is no option to recycle in my apartment building, so every 2 weeks my roommate and I take a trip to the recycling center and drop off our recyclables. Even though it is a car trip, it is worth it to dispose of all our recyclables properly!
