REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Michael Sheppard 4/14/2019 5:08 PMI think price is the largest factor. It's cheaper and faster to eat fast-food than it is to go to the grocery store and buy the ingredients to make an organic meal, and that's one of the biggest reasons why meat is so over-consumed. I think that another part of it is education. Nutrition is something that is really important and isn't something that is really taught in a lot of schools. As a result, people go for the foods that are the cheapest and most convenient. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Michael Sheppard 4/14/2019 5:01 PMIn my opinion, a sustainable community is one that uses renewable resources and minimizes consumption. To make this become a reality, we need to get as many people as possible on board with the whole sustainability issue. Education is key. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportList some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Michael Sheppard 4/09/2019 8:40 PMI had a coworker who worked at the same time as I did, so I offered to give them a ride to work. Their place was on my way, so I didn't really have to burn any extra fuel than I normally would have. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Michael Sheppard 4/09/2019 8:36 PMEating smaller portions limits the over-consumption of food. Often times I'll feel just as full eating less, as I would eating more. -
Michael Sheppard 4/06/2019 9:33 PMInstead of meeting my friend at the gym, we carpooled together and saved about 1/3 of a gallon of gas. -
Michael Sheppard 4/06/2019 9:32 PMI work at a restaurant, my lunch consisted of extra food that was made by mistake and would have likely been thrown out.
