  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

You can chose to replace palm oil products. You can also protest it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I never heard about this before. I was surprised that we already have a perfect way of making electricity and we still haven’t switched to that.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Winston Sloan's avatar

I can try to eat less food with palm oils. I can eat less meat dairy and eggs and switch to more plant based options, and I can reduce my use of cocoa and coffee.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Winston Sloan 4/23/2019 11:30 AM
Now that I know the differences, I will know how long I can keep a food and know when to use it before it gets wasted.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

They could be put on several things such as the bb and t building, the courthouse and even trees.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Winston Sloan's avatar
    Winston Sloan 4/09/2019 4:44 PM
I think informing people about it is the best investment. I think this because not everyone has the money to switch to geothermal. If tax money could go to switching to geothermal then we would all be better off.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Winston Sloan's avatar
    Winston Sloan 4/09/2019 11:33 AM
No I didn’t know about silvopasture, I think the biggest advantage is the health of everything in it. Using this system we can improve the health and production of so many animals while reducing our carbon footprint.

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

What concerns me most is that I’m worried the coming youth and next generation of kids will have to struggle to survive in this world. By the time my age of people are in their 60’s there will be significant damage done to the earth. I know this because there already is a great amount of damage. If we don’t start thinking of ways to save our planet now then it won’t be livable in the next couple decades.
