Our dependence on the mass production of beef and other animal meats in order to supply our population with a cheap food source despite its expense in comparison to plant based foods. What it says about North American values is we always assume the earth is a hurdle that we can jump over with the assistance of science. In this case it is our ability to mass produce animal flesh and our rejection of seeing these animals as more than just dinner that leads us to create huge farms that are incredibly productive while polluting our water and air.
