Krista Thie 4/22/2019 8:53 AMI would like to have even more impact....After listening yesterday to Greta Thurnberg it is beyond time that we act decisively and reduce our atmospheric gas emissions. How to motivate and move us collectively? -
Krista Thie 4/18/2019 8:12 AMI am excited about the Global Earth Repair Conference participants - listening to their youtube presentations and reflecting. Dan Halsey, SouthWoodsCenter.com in Minnesota is inspiring. He is organized and a thoughtful teacher of permaculture. -
Krista Thie 4/17/2019 2:10 PMI'm glad the challenge is 3 weeks so that I don't forget to check in. My attention can wander...however, I'm also hoping this continues as I appreciate the planning that has gone into the drawdown so that I can notice my incremental involvement. Thank you, Drawdown. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Krista Thie 4/17/2019 2:08 PMWhen I walk or bike I am in nature...the air, the stage of bloom, the dust or the rain. I am refreshed. Since I live in a rural area, when I am in the city and ride transit, I am fascinated with people watching and listening to conversation snatches. My husband and I batch errands so that when we drive we always doing more than one task. I notice the actions and the people of my community so that I can meet basic needs in this town. . . not only building community, building social equity but also reducing miles driven. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Explore Other Electricity Generation SolutionsWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
Krista Thie 4/17/2019 1:59 PMSolar remains the most amazing to me. The most prevalent and the most democratic and dispersed. Every roof and every garden could have panels. -
Krista Thie 4/10/2019 10:22 AMToday I learned about SAMSØ, DENMARK, an island that is totally energy independent. Inspiring. Also I'm reading about how Africa is going solar, India is increasing use of biomass to produce electricity instead of burning straw in the fields. More inspiring than I anticipated. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
Krista Thie 4/10/2019 9:25 AMWe have a pellet stove and live in a timber area. So I am already very familiar with this and am not interested in it as it releases too much carbon. -
Krista Thie 4/09/2019 1:14 PMI am happy to see that we have 11 participants and with so little notice. There is interesting focus with these challenges - not all expected even though I look at this issue almost daily. We have installed solar. We are able to drive mostly electric miles. For five months of the year the hot water in this house is solar. . . all of our clothes are air dried. In the winter that increases the humidity when the house is super dry from the heat pump. In the summer the clothes are fresh from the outside air and sunshine. -
Krista Thie 4/05/2019 4:31 PMToday I have been looking for Global Earth Repair Conference affiliates - checking out international restoration work via YouTube. Geoff Lawton, Australian permaculture worker doing inspirational regreening of the earth along with John D Liu, who has done extensive work in China and who will be offering restoration workshops in Port Townsend, May 3-5. -
Krista Thie 4/04/2019 1:30 PMMy family (husband & 35 year old son) are passionate about healing the planet through our interactions with renewable energy, electric production, electric vehicles, gardening, creating local trails and trail bridges. We also work to create relationships with people of the global majority - i.e. people of color - those who are oppressed by the dominant culture. to be continued....
