    Land Use Local Perennial Biomass
Climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe states that "The reason we care about climate change is because it affects the people and places that we care about." What is happening (or will happen) in your area that will affect the people and places you care about?

In my local community more and more people are changing to solar power, composting and creating more niches for pollinators.

    Materials Eliminate Toxic Plastics
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I avoid using plastic and paper straws. I purchased a metal straw and use that only when I have a beverage that a straw is useful for. I use my own ceramic cups during the day for coffee or tea. I have many small eco bags for veggies and use reusable paper or recycled material bags for groceries etc.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Health benefits.  You have much more energy to expend if you are not tired after over-eating .

Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

To feed the homeless, donate to food banks anything you might over purchase.
Keep track of the $$ amounts of food wasted and make an effort to donate it to a local farm initiative.
