Zoë Thurling 4/25/2019 8:19 AMI learned that there is much more I can do to engage in regeneration of the planet, and that by doing so, I pass on to my children an awareness that will help them become capable ambassadors of knowledge for their generation. -
Zoë Thurling 4/17/2019 10:23 PMI am happy with the bidets we have installed. Goodbye toilet paper. If it’s yellow let it mellow flush policy is reducing water waste further. -
Zoë Thurling 4/15/2019 4:17 PMSo I've been working on a Glassworks Cooperative project and we are gearing up for committee formation. I am hopeful that some of my teammates will join in. It's a super-exciting development that would help our community generate green electricity, and signal that we are a community that really does care about the environment. -
Zoë Thurling 4/15/2019 4:10 PMI will tend to eat what is already available rather than have it go to waste. When given a choice I will go for vegetarian or vegan, but I cannot control every situation. -
Zoë Thurling 4/15/2019 3:56 PMMy challenge is going well enough, but there is a lot more to do. So much. It is overwhelming to think of the consequences of not acting, yet still somehow it is a struggle to convince others, even people who seem to be very astute, that we need to take dramatic action to avert climate chaos. Someone asked me, are you a pessimist or an optimist. I said both without even thinking. I have to be a pessimist to really hear the science and what it tells us. On the other hand, I have to be an optimist, or else I cannot act. And action is the only thing that can bring hope, as Greta Thunberg says. So chipping away at bits I do, working on larger projects and trying to be vocal. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Zoë Thurling 4/10/2019 2:37 PMGoing to the tree sale at the Grey Sauble Conservation Area soon to pick me out some trees - I've wanted to plant some for a while. :)
-
Zoë Thurling 4/10/2019 2:40 PMIt will feel good to put back into the land that is helping to sustain us.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Zoë Thurling 4/10/2019 2:07 PMI find that it is difficult to master the idea of smaller portions with my kids -- the portion challenge has helped to make us refill when necessary, rather than over serving and wasting.-
Zoë Thurling 4/10/2019 2:41 PMThe benefits are that we appreciate what we have more.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Research Heat PumpsWhy is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?
Zoë Thurling 4/10/2019 2:05 PMProper insulation before using a heat pump is a must - I've found this really interesting system that can fill cracks using vacuum and an inert spray and increase air tightness by an impressive amount in under 2 hours. This sounds too good to be true - would love to know if anyone on our team have any experience or deeper knowledge about this system -- here is the link: https://aerobarrier.net -
Zoë Thurling 4/05/2019 8:38 PMChallenge is going well enough but I wonder how to scale change fast enough. Is there any estimate of what each of us has to achieve to save the world? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Plan to InsulateWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Zoë Thurling 4/05/2019 4:06 PMMaking my home more energy efficient will mean less energy and specifically natural gas waste. Like many Owen Sound folks I live in a drafty old house. This is a work in progress.
