REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Stephanie Trott 4/15/2019 4:20 PMTin foil, followed by plastic wrap. I try to only use these when wrapping raw meat to store in the freezer or fridge, and have definitely cut down. The real culprit is . . . paper towels! I'd really like and going to make an effort to get away from using these. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Stephanie Trott 4/11/2019 11:23 AMTo me, a sustainable community is one that thrives on communication. What do the people need? What does the land need? The animals, the infrastructure, etc.? Having respect for one another is fundamental, and from there I think it's possible to find a more harmonious coexistence. A sustainable community works together with the future in mind, thinking also of how the past affects the present and where small changes now can lead to monumental ones down the line. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Stephanie Trott 4/11/2019 11:20 AMMy partner and I are conscious checking for palm oil (and admittedly I don't eat a lot of chocolate!), but finding a sustainable, budget-conscious coffee was difficult! I drink coffee every day and rarely purchase it, so I'm working to justify the cost as truly being one made for the greater good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Stephanie Trott 4/06/2019 12:19 PMExperiences! I would love to make time to take a road trip through the American West with my partner. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Stephanie Trott 4/03/2019 11:51 AMI'd love to have this money as an additional payment on my student loans! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Stephanie Trott 4/03/2019 11:51 AMAdvertising likely has a lot to do with this! There are so many advertisements for fast foods that are (1) inexpensive, (2) stylized, and (3) imply that you'll be a better person if you eat them. While humans definitely need a balanced amount of protein, there are so many other sources; I enjoy an omnivorous diet and am working to make it more sustainable by incorporating more plant-based proteins.
