Deadlines are important! This motivated me to do the research I promised to do. I made time in my schedule today to make this happen.

The articles that you've recommended were SO revealing, and led to more online research. This quote from the last article sums it all up, however: "to really solve this problem, the elephant in the room has to remain in plain sight: a mindset that treats plastics — a material made to last for years — as a throwaway commodity."

    Food Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

Supporting local farmers (in my case also a local butcher!) makes everyone happier, including my family, my body and the local economy. Delicious challenge!

These are things I've been trying to be more intentional about, and this challenge was a way to support my colleagues at SEEDS while making these intentions more public - now they count for something, official-like.

How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

I have been working from home more lately, using free and easy videoconference technology (www.appear.in/connect-cx) and Google Hangouts to hold meetings, from Traverse City to Chicago to Melbourne, Australia. While face-to-face does require travel still, it's important that I do what I can to mitigate it in my work life. And it saves mileage on my car as well!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Oh man! Just being less sluggish, more healthy. I've been conscious of my satiation especially because I'm a runner and I tend to want to load up on large portions especially at night. My challenge has been to eat smaller portions, wait longer afterwards, and supplement my "rungries" as needed.
