REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
aidan walsh 4/13/2019 4:34 AMThe more I learn about the severity of climate change the more I feel obligated to change my actions and encourage others to do the same. Because so much of the modern lifestyle is dependant on non-sustainable means of production, it can feel daunting to enact change to any facet of modern life. I am hopeful however that my community will begin to realize the severity of climate change and make a personal change to curb it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
aidan walsh 4/11/2019 12:30 PMI currently eat a diet of partiality plant-based and omnivorous diet. The meat and dairy that I do eat do contribute to deforestation, but I have found it difficult to stop eating dairy completely. It now occurs to me that cutting my meat and dairy consumption is the right thing to do, and I will strive for a more plant-based diet to help end deforestation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
aidan walsh 4/09/2019 11:33 AMI had never heard about silvopasture until now, but after learning about it it seems like an abundantly productive method of livestock management, capable of providing farmers with financial stability and revitalizing the ecosystem in which silvopasture is deployed. The spreading of silvopasture as an agricultural technique promotes reforestation, and thus will ultimately contribute to the revitalization of the global ecosystem. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
aidan walsh 4/05/2019 11:31 AMIt seems to me as though investment into energy producing through the utilization of geothermal energy is the most feasible and efficient use of geothermal energy available at this time. The world is run on electricity, and while heating and cooling are both important, their relevance pale in comparison to human reliability on electricity. By tapping into geothermal energy we could harvest a large portion of our energy in areas with prime geothermal conditions, then transport any surplus electricity to help power the whole world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
aidan walsh 4/04/2019 12:34 PMIn the past I have been very skittish regarding expired food. It was easier to just throw the food away than think critically about weather the food was still good. Now I realize that these dates are corporate estimations, but inferior in accuracy to a sense of smell, sight, and critical thinking about the food I am consuming. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Share Bioplastic Disposal TipsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
aidan walsh 4/03/2019 11:47 AMMy main concern with our current treatment of the planet is the flippant jeopardization of our children's futures. With the sole goal of global domination, humans have thoughtlessly and irresponsibly destroyed the Earth. My generation has been able to live in a world largely unaffected by climate change for at least part of our life. Now, Co2 and methane emissions from the reckless monetization of our planet are already triggering global flooding, and my younger siblings and future children will never know the Earth as it was unperturbed by human greed.
