REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social JusticeWhat did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?
Dan Weiser 4/24/2019 5:31 AMWell we learned about the qualities that first Americans looked for when picking locations for a village. I think having a historical perspective about how the map developed is extremely important and that understanding can inform future sustainable choices. In my own life i can advocate for cities to recognize their history and specifically get rid of the sections that were cemented over to restore the areas to their original state. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsHow are people responding to the statistics you're sharing on social media?
Dan Weiser 4/17/2019 5:03 PMI do not get much social media attention :( i think i posted on my facebook for the first time in many months - so my reach is limited with respect to social media attention. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Dan Weiser 4/17/2019 5:03 PMWell - in this area we area pretty water abundant. I think one of the most important things we can do is to keep our water clean. We should be testing rigorously. With that said I think we also need to take a good hard look at the regulations around water. Towns should be pushing composting toilets more. As well as greywater systems. The more independent each home and business can become the more resilient we will be. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Dan Weiser 4/17/2019 4:32 PMI think energy is the centerpiece. If we can move to decentralized renewable energy sources it will dramatically change our infrastructure and carbon emissions. Plug in vehicles would make more sense as well as other plug in appliances. This seems like THE main answer. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and GirlsWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Dan Weiser 4/11/2019 7:34 AMToo many. We live in a male dominated society where laws, norms, and general infrastructure are designed by and made for the advancement of men first. From unequal pay, to unequal treatment with respect to reproductive choice to not enough men staying home with kids to share the joys and burden of raising young children. Its bad, and deep and historic and will take intentional effort to correct. -
Dan Weiser 4/11/2019 7:30 AMI feel like i could be doing more..... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity GenerationWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Dan Weiser 4/11/2019 7:28 AMThis is a massive question! My vision is that we live based more locally to start. If we are all working together and focused more on community and mutual aid we would have significantly less issues to begin with. Second is no plastic. Third is renewable energy. We should have solar panels everywhere, wind turbines, hydro dams, and plug in cars. Fourth is we need to update our infrastructure to support more walking and biking. Fifth is we need to focus on local food production. We need to take the means of our own survival back from corporations who try to centralize control over these elements of our lives. If communities banded together to take control of their own destiny and actually produced things locally we would be massively more sustainable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Dan Weiser 4/09/2019 10:32 AMI teach about climate change. I woke up one day when i was younger very worried about pollution and climate change and recognized my own ignorance. So - i went back to school and got a degree in science. Then for the last 10 years i have been teaching about climate and the environment with hopes that the next generation will make real change. -
