Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
#1 Refrigerant Management
I will spend at least 30 minutes learning how to properly dispose of my refrigerator, freezer, and other refrigerants at the end of their useful lives.
Materials
Research Cement Alternatives
#36 Alternative Cement
I will spend at least 60 minutes researching cement alternatives that reduce the carbon footprint of concrete.
Materials
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
#46 Water Saving - Home
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of trees and plants in my yard.

Share Bioplastic Disposal Tips
#47 Bioplastic
I will spend at least 30 minutes researching how to properly dispose of bioplastics in my city and share this information with 10 friends, family and/or colleagues.

Stephen Whitney 4/06/2019 8:40 AMRefrigeration technology and refrigerant management are amazing fields. Never thought how ubiquitous the need for cooling is, so of course with increasing population this is a huge growth industry. But the negative impact on the environment of misuse of refrigerant chemicals seems to be potentially massive. I've had the refrigerant in my car and home AC replaced several times and will look for the "good management practices" people talk about to prevent this leakage. It's a sure thing that the cost of replacement refrigerant will be very high in the future so prevention of waste will lead to economic savings along with reduced negative greenhouse effects. -
Stephen Whitney 4/06/2019 7:42 AMCement that captures carbon seems like an emerging technology in 2019 with numerous products being studied, but none now available. Or at least not at Home Depot. Seems like the DIY market could be a place for early adopters since most of us are doing low-risk projects like porches and walkways. Will ask around how to get some. -
Stephen Whitney 4/02/2019 9:49 AMI had no idea cement use is a problem, and I was about to use a bunch of it to fix a walkway in disrepair. Great timing and look forward to learning about alternatives. I recently dumped a refrigerator, and I think it was dropped off at the county recycling center but I'm not sure. Will learn more about refrigerant problems and spread the word on what I learn. Am wondering if this applies to our VAC system at home because these things can leak.
