Improve a Bus Stop

Keep Track of Wasted Food
#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?
Victoria Wright 4/24/2019 6:20 AMIt was outside my comfort zone picking up after someone else, but I did it...phew! Maybe I will consider doing it again, but definitely mixed feelings about this one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Victoria Wright 4/24/2019 6:17 AMAs my grandmother use to say 'Waste not, want not." It means, if you use a commodity or resource carefully and without extravagance you will not likely be in need.Your savings can be used on experiences i.e. vacation, or charity.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Victoria Wright 4/23/2019 8:28 AMUnintended consequences is exactly what is happening, in this case, the outcome is positive. It's easy to forget I'm working out when I bike to the train station or do a lot of walking to get around. My gym membership is the city and life keeps me on the move. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Victoria Wright 4/10/2019 1:11 PMi learned to eat smaller portions since I was young because whenever I couldn't finish eating what I ask for, my parents didn't let me off the hook. I was often the last one at the table slowly carving away at the small grouping of "reason" to finish my dinner. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
