What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

Changing first people's perspective on regulation. In general, people feel that their rights are being infringed upon and legislation protecting the environment will inhibit development.  As long as people feel this way they will resent and circumvent environmental protections.  We need to change this perspective, then move to creating greater protection of our resources.

    Land Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

It would seem that the best way to make a positive impact, according to your info, is to go vegan and give up chocolate and coffee. However, that's not going to happen for me. I can reduce the amount of chocolate and coffee that I consume and I can increase the amount of vegetarian meals that I eat during the week. That seems like a much more realistic goal at this point. ☺

Women and Girls Support Women-Owned Businesses
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?

As I been reading about women owned business this month. It was good to hear of all the agencies that support their development and growth. The Small Business Development Center, Women's Business Center at Canisius College, and the MWBE programs, all help and support women in business. Networking among women business leaders contributes greatly to success and the National Association of Women's Business Owners is very active in Western NY. For my daughters who are always pitching their many business Ideas to me ala Shark Tank the SBDC at Buffalo State College runs a KidsBiz program which has brought forth many past entrepreneurs who have continued their businesses into adulthood.

    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

Last day of Challenge and it's our recycle day. Sad statistic that only 1/3 of household's recycle in Western NY. However, I still have hope as the kids in the area are far more aware and seem to have taken to recycling as a common task and they know which containers to use sometimes better than I do as we clean up on the walks. Also 2-3 years ago no one seemed to be talking straws no my kids and their finds are driven that they don't need them. Maybe generational differences but positive changes I hope to see continue.

I'm kinda bummed that this challenge ends tomorrow! We've made some changes at work and at home that I'd really love to stick with: turning lights off when we don't need them on, making sure faucets aren't dripping, cutting back on meat at our meals, cooking smaller portions at meals. I love having a recycled craft area at work for kids too! This has been a great experience!

I also did a program with kids teaching them how to upcycle bottles into diy chia pets.

I arranged for a couple of public programs at work, one being a composting and rain barrel program. The other a native gardening program.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 What a perfect day to focus on reducing, reusing and recycling here at home! Time to begin a few small projects! ♻

Replaced what was left of any incandescent bulbs tonight at the home. Spoke to the Library's Maintenance Chief last week and as of the end of this month Central and the B&ECPL system libraries  will be replacing all lighting to energy saving LED tubes, about 1500 bulbs. Had to to change what I had after hearing this. Cheers to Maintenance!!
