Instead of buying the synthetic reusable produce bags, I had leftover muslin fabric and made some lightweight produce bags with a twine drawstring to keep my tomatoes from falling out.

Living in downtown Tacoma it is quite common to find excess rubbage around the tram stops. I carry tissues with me to pick it up and dispose of it appropriately. I've noticed since I started doing it, the stops stay tidier and I have witnessed other passengers doing the same.

Women and Girls Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

I was profoundly shocked and disappointed to learn that 1/5 women experience physical or sexual violence at the hands of their partner, and that 49 countries do not have any legal methods in place to prevent this from happening. Not only does this remind me of the many societal and governmental institutions that residents of developed first-world countries take for granted, it further motivates me to use my geographic luck, privilege and wealth to influence greater gender, legal, and socioeconomic equity on a global scale. I think that a lack of access to schools, limited contraception/family planning resources, governmental instability, regressive socioeconomic norms, and insufficient legal protections for women and families are major contributors to unequal representation on a global scale. In my immediate community, regressive gender norms, bias, and the media are major contributors.

When taking the bus I get to meet people in my community and I get to engage with everyone around me weather it just be a smile or "good day" and I enjoy walking and smelling the trees and fresh air.

    Food Composting
Producing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?

So that I can buy the right product. If I buy the food that has the newest sell by date, then most likely, the older sell by dated product will end up getting discarded. If I buy the oldest sell by date then I can use it until the use by date and keep an eye on it after the best by date and that will ensure that this older shelved product does not get thrown away.

Leads to a lot of respiratory illness risks and to death with too much exposure.  It also effects global warming ! It is important to me because my families health is very important
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Transport Test Drive an Electric Bike
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?

I recently started using Lime Bikes, both electric and non-electric for all my trips under 3 miles (unless extreme hills are involved! haha). I hardly ever drive my car anymore, and take public transit, ride sharing and bike sharing whenever possible. It also keeps me more active which feels great, and it so much fun! I'm excited for summer to ride even longer and more often, because I must admit I'm more of a fair weather rider :)
