It has been an exciting 3 weeks! Though the challenge has to end today, the journey of lowering my carbon footprint does not. If anything, this challenge has made me even more motivated to raise awareness and look deeper into the plethora of ways I can make my life a more sustainable one. Thanks Drawdown and Omega for another year!

What concerns me is how it harms the animals. What is happening to their environment. We might think that plastic is helpful and sometime the easier way to do things but you don't know what it is doing to other animals and creatures.

You could always tell yourself "do I really need this water" for example, some people only drink like half of the water they bring to school so they could get water from the fountain provided at school, or fill it up a little bit and when you run out fill it up a little bit more.

    Transport Purchase a Carbon Offset
A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2. What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

Over spring break I flew to Orlando, FL. I just offset my entire family's carbon footprint. I don't fly all that often. Once, maybe twice a year. Anything within a 10 hour car drive, I drive or take mass transit. It's better for the environment.

I want my students to believe that our school community really means it when they say that they want to be a sustainable responsible place. We should not provide plastic water bottles at meetings and other gatherings instead we should provide pitchers filled with water and paper cups.  It is an important step toward changing the mindset toward.

My daily food and transportation actions during this challenge increased my feeling of connection to my community and to the global environment. The research tasks taught me new ways to reduce environmental impacts in familiar topics such as concrete production and hydro-electric projects.

Identify some ways in which modern human societies have become unsustainable. What kind of roles do individuals have in creating and changing practices in society?

Individuals have a huge role in impacting their community - be it small or large. Every little bit we all do individually can influence and make a huge difference collectively. I'm hoping solar at Poly will inspire the Poly community to do more, as well as other schools, be it more local in NYC or nationally. We all can make a difference.
