I usually walk my dog around our neighborhood park. On "our" walk, I usually see new buildings sprouting from through the dirt .

Land Use Choose Better Wood Products
Beyond carbon sequestration, what other benefits do forests offer you personally?

They offer me shelter and a calm place to be. I would be very sad if sometime in my life-or anyone's-the trees were all replaced by concrete buildings, like something out of a futuristic book, or a distopian world. I don't want anyone to have to suffer the consequences that come with having no trees. No one deserves that.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

I am a vegetarian, so I thought I was fine, but then I learned that as a coffee and chocolate addict, I am causing deforestation, because farmers cut down rain forests to grow coffee and chocolate trees that once were in harmony with the rain forests, until a modernized plant came out, requiring habitat destruction to grow. To fight this, I am trying to look for "shade grown" and the "Rain forest Alliance Certification" on my coffee and chocolate. You can still eat what you love, just a healthier version!

Our history is full of diverse cultures and foods. I think this is one reason why we may consume so much meat on our day to day basis.

I think that enjoying a non-meatless meal helps our environment.

Not only do electric vehicles reduce the emissions that contribute to climate change and improve public health, they also reduce ecological damage.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

I feel like geothermal energy isn't as widely known of an option, so one of the best ways to advocate for it would simply be to educate more people on the potential of it, and to get others talking about it.
