REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Hayley Allison 6/27/2019 5:42 AMThis summer, I traveled by car to the north east. I had 4 reasons for my trip; visit my friends, attend the Drawdown REU program, meet my friend in NYC for wedding dress shopping, and attend the JKC Scholars weekend. Because I drove, I anticipated saving 4 flights to the same general area. Because I am irresponsible, I had to fly back to Florida once to register my car. So I saved 3 flights! (6 total instead of 8 round trip) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Hayley Allison 6/27/2019 5:40 AMThough I have not been keeping a food diary log, I have been significantly more conscious of how much food I have wasted this summer.
Goods;- I almost never leave any food on my plate from the dining hall
- Any food I have wasted has been put to compost, thanks to Penn State's awesome composting system
Bads;- I ordered a whole plate of rice and vegetables which tasted TERRIBLE. At home, I would typically throw a poorly seasoned meal in a frying pan and try to salvage it with teriyaki sauce, however I am not able to do that living on campus. My friend and I picked at the vegetables, but unfortunately, most of that platter went to waste,

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Explore Other Food SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Hayley Allison 4/22/2019 9:23 AMI have been spending hours researching plant based foods and their solution. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Explore Other Electricity Generation SolutionsWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
Hayley Allison 4/04/2019 5:13 AMI was assigned an essay on wind and solar power in my Energy and Environmental Policy course. Like usual, I turned to Drawdown and read through a few energy solutions to find something that sparked my interest. Prior to reading about microgrids, I had very little knowledge about how our current energy grid worked. I found microgrids to be an exciting solution because they not only decrease dependence on fossil fuel powered grids, but they also increase independence for individual areas during times of catastrophe. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 2How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Hayley Allison 4/03/2019 5:11 AMI spent time choosing the most eco-friendly coffee for our office's breakroom. I found a few articles that outline the differences between labels on coffee packages. This was not difficult at all! -
Hayley Allison 3/28/2019 8:44 AMInstead of flying to Penn State for this incredible opportunity, I will be driving!
