REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Online Energy AuditWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Rebecca Beaulieu 4/21/2019 4:36 PMSo my home is a lot better in terms of energy efficiency than I thought. Two main points though: water usage and electrical outlet useage. We have a lot of electronics plugged in all the time and my family watches TV a lot. While I've shortened my showers, sometimes my family takes longer ones. We can definitely improve by unplugging more often and saving on water when we can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Rebecca Beaulieu 4/16/2019 7:46 AMI ordered some items off of amazon to get bamboo utensils, and I bought some containers at the container store that are metal instead of plastic. It's not as cheap or as easy to use items that are not plastic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Rebecca Beaulieu 4/08/2019 7:04 AMReproductive rights, access to reproductive health and family planning, access to education, and domestic violence are among some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and representation around the world. In many countries, there are no laws protecting women from domestic violence and other forms of discrimination. When families are in poverty, the resources often go to the boys and men in the family first, leaving the women and girls to be caretakers or workers instead of getting access to education.
In my own community, women's equal participation or representation is often hindered by those in power. Wage gaps still exist because there are no laws to prevent them from existing. Reproductive rights around the country are at stake because men in power want to prevent women from having access to abortions and other reproductive health services by limiting government funds to planned parenthood and enacting laws preventing abortion after a certain amount of weeks. More women need to get elected to these seats of power for these things to change.
