I think that the idea of a culture shift this large is what is keeping it all from happening. It doesn't help that our current administration isn't leading the change. Most people are opposed to the level of investment these changes demand. Not only do we need to change the public perspective on the necessity of these measures, but we also need to incentivize people to make the switch to a more sustainable future. Whether it's a monetary incentive or some other type of perk, most Americans need to be given a push to become interested in a sustainable way of life.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Elijah Coley 4/09/2019 2:04 PMIn my ideal sustainable world, every rooftop is covered in solar panels, and the streets are covered in greenery to help mop CO2 and toxins from the air. Electric cars would be the norm and fossil fuels are done away with.

REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Elijah Coley 4/09/2019 1:22 PMI try to avoid buying new/throwing away whenever possible. My apartment has been furnished completely by secondhand furniture and I try to donate clothes to goodwill so that these goods can live on and avoid creating more waste. I feel like I'm helping to empower the movement, but I know that it will take more involvement from others to make a serious impact.-
Jay Hindmarsh 4/11/2019 12:38 PMThe clothing reminder is a good one Elijah!
Our family has been fortunate to inherit most of our kids clothing, and have really tried to divert our "downstream" clothes to a re-seller or Goodwill / Salvation Army.
My favorite waste stream diversion are the original cloth diapers (from our now 9-year old), re-purposed as re-usable household cleaning rags. Still good!
