REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Advocate For Greener VehiclesHow does advocating for green vehicles in your community connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to fuel-efficient vehicles?
Hannah Dwenger 4/25/2019 11:00 AMAdvocating for green vehicles connects to my values because I truly value and appreciate the planet we live on and want to protect it in any way that I can. I can get others involved in advocating for fuel-efficient cars by getting one myself and showing them the benefits these cars have to offer the earth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Share Bioplastic Disposal TipsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Hannah Dwenger 4/25/2019 10:53 AMThe thing that concerns me the most with how we are affecting the planet is how much we pollute the Earth. We pollute it with factory waste and with our cars. We also pollute the Earth with littering. People who do not throw their trash away are killing the environment and all the things living here. Our trash and wastes are polluting the Earth's oceans. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 2How difficult or easy was it to change your diet?
Hannah Dwenger 4/25/2019 7:33 AMIt was slightly difficult because I drink a lot of coffee and eat a lot of chocolate. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Hannah Dwenger 4/25/2019 7:17 AMWhat contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries is fast food restaurants. Basically the only meals you can get at these places are burgers, chicken sandwiches, and chicken nuggets. This shows that North Americans value meat and like going to fast food places because they are quick and cheap. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Hannah Dwenger 4/23/2019 9:41 AMI would rather use this money to donate to homeless people who do not have the money to even buy food. There are so many starving people who would eat that food that we throw out. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Hannah Dwenger 4/23/2019 9:33 AMI noticed that the days when I walked on the trails in the woods were my most enjoyable walks. This is because there was nothing but nature surrounding me and nothing distracting. I found that my walks on sidewalks next to roads were less enjoyable because there were so many cars passing by. I think the changes to the infrastructure that could be made are that more trails could be made near water or nature, but without harming it or cutting down any trees. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Go PaperlessWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Hannah Dwenger 4/22/2019 10:23 AMI want to prioritize caring for the environment and prioritize my family, friends, and my dog. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Hannah Dwenger 4/22/2019 9:46 AMMy vision of a sustainable community is one where no one liters, everyone recycles, and there was no pollution. In order for this to be a reality, everyone would need to be on board with not littering. Littering is such a problem that some people in this world never stop, so some places have started their own small way of helping out the planet when people do liter. For example, restaurants have started to use paper straws, or sell metal starts instead of plastic ones. I also believe that everyone should recycle. It has become mandatory in my neighborhood to recycle so we do it at my home, but I think it should be mandatory all over the world. I also believe that all cars should be made environmentally friendly in order to decrease pollution considering cars are such a huge part of our lives today. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Hannah Dwenger 4/22/2019 9:33 AMPlanting trees is good for your mental health because it gives you the feeling that you did something good for the environment to give back and better the world, which makes you feel happier. Planting trees is good for your physical health because it forces you to get outside and get active. Planting trees is good for your spiritual health because it really allows you to connect with the natural world and know that what you are doing is better the world around you. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Hannah Dwenger 4/22/2019 9:18 AMMeat, dairy, and eggs are very popular products all over the world. Through my research I found that as the demand for these products goes up, more land is needed to grow livestock feed to keep these animals alive. That means more trees cut down to create fields for crops. Also, the more demand for these animal products, the more land needed to house these livestock animals. I do not eat a lot of meat on a daily basis, mostly just chicken, so it would be easy for me to cut meat out of my diet. I can also start to eat less dairy products, as I eat them daily, and replace them with non-animal products. I eat a lot of eggs because eggs are in everything, but I rarely eat eggs by themselves. I can start to check the ingredients in my food before I buy them and buy things without eggs in them.
