REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Amy Fetahi 4/12/2019 7:32 AMUsing smaller plates most likely has some health benefits as well as environmental ones. Using a smaller plate would control portion sizes as people may tend to overeat with a larger plate. If you're eating the correct portions then it could also aid in weight loss. -
Amy Fetahi 4/12/2019 7:26 AMI joined the EcoChallenge because I feel every one should take part in taking care of our environment. It's an opportunity to share with my students and my own child, different things that we can do to make our world a healthier, better place to live. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Choose Recycled PaperGood job on choosing recycled paper! How can you take your action a step further?
Amy Fetahi 4/12/2019 5:53 AMI started doing this in our home office. Other than just using recycled paper, use other products that are recycled as well like toner for the printer. We are going to start to recycle ink and toner cartridges used in our printer as well. I recently found out that you can bring them to Staples and they will recycle them for you. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Go PaperlessWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Amy Fetahi 4/11/2019 7:33 AMWe are more about sharing family experiences and creating memories rather than spending money on things that aren't needed. There is nothing wrong with having some material items but the majority should be time spent together with family and/or friends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Amy Fetahi 4/11/2019 7:30 AMI believe that one reason is because most of it is affordable for people to buy and anyone on a grocery budget wants to get the most for their money. Another reason I believe has to do with people wanting simple ways to add protein to do their diet especially since meat easily falls into clean eating or keto diets. Many people think that eating a plant based diet would be way too expensive, however, there are many ways to do this without overspending such as buying from local farms, using local co-ops, etc. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Amy Fetahi 4/11/2019 5:51 AMMy son and I walk our dog everyday after school and all the sidewalk areas by my house are a mess. They are uneven, the concrete is broken and jagged plus there is a fair amount of litter on one stretch. i live near the river and the main road to the river doesn't even have a sidewalk to walk on...luckily it's not a very busy road. The mini park on the river is well taken care of which is nice! -
Amy Fetahi 3/27/2019 11:22 AMI like this idea because I already pay a majority of my bills online and do not need a paper bill.
