REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Support Women-Owned BusinessesGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?
Kayla Hurley 4/10/2019 1:39 PMThrough my research, I found this website: https://www.womenownedlogo.com/buy-women-owned-directory. It helps you search for woman-owned businesses near and far by categories such as health & wellness, home & office, etc. I can support women and their own businesses by telling their story as well as my personal story. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Try CarpoolingList some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Kayla Hurley 4/09/2019 11:59 AMI have been acting in a junior's film project this semester. All the locations sites were off campus. Instead of taking more than one car, we carpooled quite frequently! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Kayla Hurley 4/07/2019 1:22 PMBecause I do not have a car on campus, and most likely won't until junior and senior year, my mode of transportation if by foot. I do have a penny board and a bike that Could bring to college to use as well. Walking from place to place allows me to be interact with the environment, including the other people walking. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Kayla Hurley 4/06/2019 11:39 AMI would incorporate other "R's" into my lifestyle by, for example, using a variety of Tupperware to store food instead of using wasteful food storage made of plastic, styrofoam, etc. As a part of the FRN, I am against food waste already as it is. I will be happy to utilize resourceful Tupperware.-
Addy Davidson 4/06/2019 5:03 PMYou can take it a step further by using glass and beeswax-soaked cloth covers.

REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Go PaperlessWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Kayla Hurley 4/05/2019 1:21 PMI am not a materialistic person as it is, but I was not always this way. With age, and with experience, I am learning the difference between needs and wants. I live a fortunate life with the option of having both needs and wants, but some are not as fortunate. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Online Energy AuditWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Kayla Hurley 4/04/2019 4:06 PMMy home has a more negative than positive environmental impact. My home uses my about 86,169lbs of carbon per year. Among the numerous way I can turn this environmental impact from negative to positive, the top three are: 1) purchasing a programmable thermostat, 2) changing the cooling setting on my thermostat, and 3) upgrading whole cooling system to a new high efficiency heat pump.
