Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Support Women-Owned Businesses
Globally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?

With Engineers without Borders I was leading a team to build a bridge in Kenya. There was one Kenyan woman on our construction team with mostly males. One day, we had to cut half of the laborers because we were only doing some light painting. The lady looked at me and asked for the job, but I was so afraid of stepping on the toes of the Kenyan supervisor and crossing cultural boundaries that I didn't fight for her. I regret that decision. I know at least we were able to create jobs for her and the other Kenyans for a few days.

I still haven't visited the farmer's market, but have been discovering more women owned, locally sourced, and vegetarian restaurants around my office. I had the tastiest mushroom polenta today!

Ugh, palm oil is in peanut butter?? I'll have to find some better peanut butter alternatives, and tell my husband what to look for on labels when he buys coffee. I've been bad about biking so far, but the weather is nicer and farmer's markets will be opening nearby soon.
