Challenge is going well, but I am finding it harder than last year to start biking again as the rain begins to fall.

Feels good to be doing these challenges again. Last year jump started me, but I did slack a little after the challenge was over.

Buildings and Cities Go for a Daily Walk
What have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?

I noticed more of the character of the various neighborhoods around my block and have enjoyed exploring these areas. I live on a busy street, so it's pretty common for left turning drivers to cut me off as I'm crossing the street, they are usually anxious since if they wait to turn they'll likely  miss the light due to congestion from on coming traffic. I wonder if faster public transit would get more car off the road.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

I always load my plate up with food than realize that I throw out 25% at the end. I bet I will see some grocery savings by using a smaller plate and and therefore not throwing as much out.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I spoke with a company the other day that mentioned making a product that lasts longer at the cost of a higher price. I usually just get the cheapest thing on Amazon and reorder it every time it breaks. It makes me think that it could make way more sense to spend the extra money and throw less out.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

Going to pick up my bike from maintenance and then will ride it home. Should be neat since it is in  a new part of town.

Really excited to get started on this again this year. It was a tight competition last year!
