Caroline Keating 4/17/2019 4:16 PMTechnological difficulties are plaguing me this year yet I am determined to charge on and finish it out. In fact, both kids and I are brainstorming how to KEEP GOING after the challenge ends. All of us have noticed that it is easier to make the right choices when we feel that our actions are part of a bigger community effort. We are brainstorming ways to keep challenging ourselves well beyond these three weeks. We are thinking about a weekly homeschool group/action item. -
Caroline Keating 4/05/2019 5:06 PMDay 3 of the DrawDown EcoChallenge coincided with a case of the homeschool stir-crazies. When the wiggles became to much we declared "working lunch!" and headed to Market of Choice. And WOW did our usual lunch stop look different when viewed through our newly affixed plastic-awareness goggles. Yikes. We did our best in our choices - where we felt we had them - but we were two plastic clam shells, three sample-size plastic spoons, and a small plastic ice-cream cup in the hole by meal's end. We added that to the fact that we had meat in the mix (thanks to world water day a few weeks ago we all know how much water it takes to make a hamburger!) and we quickly saw the cost of our human consumption.
Real world math education for the day - check.
A lesson that I guarantee they will always remember.

Caroline Keating 4/04/2019 8:02 PMToday was Day 2 of the Drawdown EcoChallenge as well as the end of our cousins' spring break visit.
On top of three kids, ski gear, and a dog my sister managed to lug all of her family's carefully saved hand-me-downs to pass along to our kids. Baanko was thrilled especially with the fancy dresses. Winter wear for next year was what made me squeal with delight. The planet and our personal pocketbook once again dodged a big ding. Clothing, especially fast fashion apparel AND microfiber rich active-wear, are taking a huge toll on the environment. We made that fact our focus today for the EcoChallenge and our homeschool afternoon.

Caroline Keating 4/03/2019 8:01 AMToday is Jane Goodall's 85th Birthday! For the second year running we are celebrating our "shero" by following her lead and being agents of change for our environment. Jane's Message Of Hope is a daily inspiration for us at The Warthog School and we are looking forward to 22 days of experiencing "strength in numbers" as our mom-and-two-kids homeschool swells to include friends and family from all over. Here we go
