Nancy Lee 4/22/2019 8:49 PMI have been observing our plastic consumption. Go to Costco, observe the things we buy. The packaging. We have gone mad as a society. We need to look at our priorities. -
Nancy Lee 4/22/2019 8:40 PMI have been re-using plastic Saran Wrap. It gets washed and wiped and dries well. Hang it and it is ready to go again. I don’t think I will buy another pack of plastic wrap ever again. -
Nancy Lee 4/19/2019 5:27 AMI had saved lots of plastic containers. Aluminum trays. Instead of throwaway of the black containers, we aimed for reuse! Gave them away to friend who has lots food parties and (would have to buy containers) on condition that they all get washed and reused again. It’s Spring rejuvenation eco style. -
Nancy Lee 4/16/2019 4:53 AMTo increase my recycling of plastic, I tried to add new behavior. I experimented with wiping clean my Saran Wrap from veggie packaging and takeout food. It works! I stretch out the dirty side up l, wipe with soapy sponge then do a “rinse” wipe with my clean kitchen microfiber cloth then repeat for other side if need, dry with towel then hang to dry over a chair. Ready to use! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
Nancy Lee 4/11/2019 3:44 PMGrocery store items can be used and not wasted if we can get over the “stigma” of using food that is not technically “fresh” but is not unedible.-
Milithza Silva 4/14/2019 9:16 PMLast year I watched a documentary: Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story (2014) - IMDbQuite an eye opener. It's very sad that so much food go to waste while there are so many people going hungry even in our own cities. Not to mention in the cities & countries where all that food is actually produced. The freshness issue is a subjective definition. Of course, there are some health and quality factors to consider, but if you choose plant choices they are definitely longer shelf-life compared to animal products

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Nancy Lee 4/11/2019 3:41 PMI started separating my green bin items. Those items that can be compostable and all the rest that can go in green bin (Eg animal products). I am storing my greens (food waste from food preparation) in pails to be put out more conveniently. -
Nancy Lee 4/06/2019 7:38 PMI went to a meeting. They had drinks with disposable cups. Luckily I had my water bottle for a refill! Also used an existing takeout container and cups from my To Go bin thus reducing my consumption by 5 plastic items! A great start to using my To Go bin.-

Nancy Lee 4/05/2019 7:29 PMI found myself throwing out a sinful amount of uncooked veggies and fruits. Spoiled. I need to only buy what I need for 3-4 days and eat fresh. This is tough as I like to do big batch cooking. Maybe I should consider freezing my food excess. -
Nancy Lee 4/05/2019 6:31 AMI am happy to share that I assembled my To Go bin/box for the car. No more need to consume more plastic containers from the restaurant takeout. Reusing coffee cups and lids. Shopping bags available.-
Nancy Lee 4/05/2019 8:37 AMJust adding that if you are out and have to use the eatery’s plastic cutlery, no harm in wrapping it up and bringing it home to wash and reuse. -
Andrea Stephens 4/05/2019 7:12 AMThis is great example for us all - I Challenge al members of our team to create their own Go/Bin/Box for their own vehicles - I've started carrying reusable cutlery in my bag - in a pinch if you forget take the wood chopstick option instead of plastic cutlery if it's available- more and more places are including these on the counters!
