REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Julia Lewis 4/23/2019 2:45 PMNot only do electric vehicles reduce the emissions that contribute to climate change and improve public health, they also reduce ecological damage. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Julia Lewis 4/23/2019 2:40 PMI feel like geothermal energy isn't as widely known of an option, so one of the best ways to advocate for it would simply be to educate more people on the potential of it, and to get others talking about it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Advocate for Solar InstallationHow does advocating for rooftop solar connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Julia Lewis 4/23/2019 2:28 PMSo many of my values are based around our environment, protecting it, cherishing it, and preserving it for the future. As solar is one of the best ways we can achieve these things, rooftop solar ties perfectly into my values. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Julia Lewis 4/23/2019 2:26 PMHonestly I think the most important thing when trying to implement the "R's" is just to remember. That is the hardest part because it is so easy to forget about them when you are just going about your daily life, and I think that once you start keeping them at the front of your mind and thinking about them often, it is fairly simple to implement them into your lifestyle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Properly Dispose of RefrigerantsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Julia Lewis 4/22/2019 8:41 AMThere are some days when it is really hard to feel positive about our future. Climate change has the potential to destroy everything that we hold dear, everything that we know, and because of that it can be easy to just want to give up. When this happens, I think it is really important to find the hope. Of course we need to understand the depth and seriousness of this issue, but we also need to remember the progress we are making, and the effort that so many people all around the world are putting in. No matter what, we have to keep fighting. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Communicate With My Elected OfficialsWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Julia Lewis 4/03/2019 9:54 AMI am inspired by the fact that this is my future at risk here. Climate change is an issue that is affecting us right now and will continue to affect us if we don't take action. It is affecting my world, my country, my city, my community, my friends, and my family. I will not let my future be compromised by an issue that we can be working on right now, and I am determined to do whatever I can to help. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Julia Lewis 4/03/2019 9:51 AMGoing for a daily walk reminds me of the beauty that surrounds me. It is so easy to forget about the nature around us, and I think going for a walk in your community is a great way to interact with the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Julia Lewis 4/03/2019 9:47 AMI think that Americans feel like they are entitled to meat. We think that somehow we deserve it, and because of that are unwilling to give it up. The thought process that "vegetarianism is too hard" is not uncommon, and it kind of makes it seem like meat would make your life easier. I think that in order to effectively minimize our meat consumption, we have to overcome this idea that we are entitled to meat, and instead understand that it is a privilege, and it should not be taken for granted. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Julia Lewis 4/03/2019 9:26 AMI think that a sustainable community would be one with healthy people, a healthy, environment, and a strong economy. Everyone's needs would be met in a way that is good for the environment, and all of the people would be aware of their surroundings and the affect that they have on them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Julia Lewis 3/27/2019 12:29 PMNot only does serving ourselves smaller portions avoid waste, it also has health benefits as well. When we use larger plates to serve ourselves, we often try to fill up the entire plate, which results in us eating much more than we need to/should. Using small plates or starting with smaller amounts of food helps to regulate this.
