Alice McMechen 4/23/2019 6:31 PMMy challenge has been to fit this in with sorting, packing and moving this month. Lots of recycling/ repurposing occurred and will continue to occur over the next week. Including sending some items to archives at Stamford (piano rolls) and at Univ. of W. VA ( documents related to artist who graduated from there). Even my broken piano is being repurposed - by an artist who will use the parts in his collages.-
Wendy V 4/24/2019 5:54 AMWay to go! Does it "spark joy":)?

REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Alice McMechen 4/22/2019 5:57 AMI try very hard to find ways to avoid putting materials into the landfill. I recycle everything I can locally and try to find other sources of recycling. For example, I will be taking a bag of fabric to a friend whose municipality recyclies fabric. I rinse out empty glass jars to reuse for leftover food and to store grains, raisins, etc. I donate books I know longer want or need to libraries and book sales. I participate in my community's Too Good To Toss annual event. A few examples. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Alice McMechen 4/22/2019 5:53 AMNarrow country roads that do not make allowances for pedestrians, other than slower speed limits which are not always observed by motorists. So, enforcement of speed limits might help as might wider shoulders. I have enjoyed taking in the local scenery at a slower pace. I have enjoyed the friendly greeting - hand wave = of many passing motorists and the concern of some for my safety - slowing down or giving me a wide berth; even stopping to let a vehicle coming in the opposite direction pass. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Research Heat PumpsWhy is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?
Alice McMechen 4/22/2019 5:48 AMI care because Earth is on a catastrophic path to no longer supporting the beautiful eco-system of all living beings and my grandchildren are going to have to deal with these consequences on-going throughout their lifetimes.-
Wendy V 4/23/2019 5:02 PMI hear you. It's heartbreaking to think about. But, also very motivating!
