What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/24/2019 7:23 PM
My envision of a sustainable community is where people are taking the wastes that we produce such as food scraps and reprocessing it so we can use it again. To do this we could set up composting facilities or use reusable utensils and bottles.

What concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/24/2019 6:33 PM
What concerns me most about how we are affecting the planet is how globally we care more about money and sometimes become lazy causing pollution and more CO2 emissions. Locally, I believe we are taking too many trips with our cars since each family owns one or two cars.

How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/24/2019 6:31 PM
If the environmental quality such as litter-free streets is well, I would feel a greater sense of community because we are taking care of the environment and respecting our town and its residents.

How can you share what you have learned in your research with others?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/22/2019 6:03 PM
I can share the research I learned by putting it on the vlog I will make and I can use social media to inform my friends.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/22/2019 3:05 PM
I could incorporate "refuse" into my lifestyle by avoiding or refusing to use plastic straws and utensils when I eat out. I could also reuse take out containers instead of throwing them out. Implementing these "R's" in my life make me proud because I am doing my part to protect the environment from pollution.

How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/02/2019 7:48 AM
I think having access to car makes me self reliant on it even though there are other modes of transportation such as walking and biking. Having a car maybe has made me think that transportation should not involve strenuous exercise.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/02/2019 7:45 AM
We could save money because we would have to cook less food now. People could also become more healthy since we are not overeating to the point we are past full.

In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/02/2019 7:31 AM
North America probably has a better supply of meat over other places. We have regulations for meat quality so we feel safer eating meat which causes us to buy more. We could also be richer than other countries so we can afford to eat meat more often.

List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Justin Ng's avatar
    Justin Ng 4/02/2019 7:18 AM
I know on Wednesdays I can share a ride with my friend coming back from orchestra practice. Maybe on track meets I can also help one of my friends pitch a ride with me.

    Justin Ng 3/30/2019 3:35 PM
I plan to have meatless breakfasts and lunches since livestock, especially cows produce a lot of the greenhouse gas, methane. Also I will try to carpool with my friend after our orchestra practices and track meets and take the school bus instead of being driven so I release less CO2 into the environment. If I keep this up for the next month and moving onward I can have a substantially healthier impact on myself and the earth and it probably won't be that difficult too. I could also do research to find out actions people are doing be more eco-friendly to get us points.
