REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Carter Norfleet 4/21/2019 5:59 PMIt makes me think more about what I buy, and where I shop from. I'm overwhelmed by how much damage we've done to the planet, but there are so many people trying to help, which is great. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Carter Norfleet 4/12/2019 11:49 AMMy vision of a sustainable community involves a large portion of the citizens to have electric cars, as well as having solar paneling on their houses. This vision would require lower prices for these things, as well as faster production rates. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Carter Norfleet 4/12/2019 6:28 AMI thought that my diet would not affect deforestation, as I pretty much live on instant ramen. As it turns out, palm oil is commonly used in instant ramen, and palm oil is one of, if not the biggest contributor of deforestation. Also, I eat meat and dairy quite often, and they contribute to deforestation as well.-
Carter Norfleet 4/12/2019 6:31 AMAlso, the amount of chocolate I eat is most likely not good, for myself or forests.

REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Share Bioplastic Disposal TipsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Carter Norfleet 4/12/2019 5:54 AMHow we are harming the ocean is terrifying. There is so much trash in the ocean it seems very unlikely we will be able to clean it all up. Locally, the trash in and along the French Broad is depressing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Plan to InsulateWhat are some of the benefits of making your home more energy efficient?
Carter Norfleet 4/11/2019 5:46 PMFor one, saving money is a big plus. The easier it is to heat your home, the less money the process will cost. -
Carter Norfleet 4/11/2019 5:45 PM"Indonesia’s deforestation dropped by half from 2012 to 2013, according to satellite-based data produced by the University of Maryland and released by the World Resources Institute’s Global Forest Watch" (cgdev.org).Yay!-
Karuna Li 4/14/2019 6:50 PMThat's so awesome! Indonesia was getting hit pretty hard, I know. Also, go UMD!! That's the college I would have gone to if I stayed in Maryland

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Carter Norfleet 4/11/2019 6:49 AMI like the noise levels of green vehicles, as well as their sleek design. I have driven an electric car, and I think they are also fun to drive, as they sort of feel like they are gliding down the road. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Research Heat PumpsWhy is taking action on climate change important to you? Why do you care?
Carter Norfleet 4/11/2019 6:29 AMI think taking action on climate change is important because the health of the planet will affect my future, as well as future generations. Also, there is only one planet, so we need to take care of this one, as cliche as that sounds. -
Carter Norfleet 4/11/2019 6:28 AMI don't think a heat pump would make sense for my house, as we aren't heated via propane or oil, nor do we experience rooms with consistently stable temperatures that need to be altered. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? Share some of the learning with your friends!
Carter Norfleet 4/05/2019 12:19 PMI learned that family planning saves countless lives, from preventing pregnancy complications to making sure a child isn't born without a good home to live in.
