REFLECTION QUESTIONFood CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Christine Oryhan 4/11/2019 3:15 PMWe waste a lot of food in our house because we have a toddler who doesn't eat everything on his place and it looks inedible after he is done with it. Nice to be able to compost it! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Eliminate Toxic PlasticsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Christine Oryhan 4/09/2019 8:02 PMI typically use single use coffee cups at work but I didn't feel that bad about it because they are compostable cups. BUT, they are still single use and I have my own mugs, so I plan on using those when possible instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Christine Oryhan 4/09/2019 8:00 PMI had never heard of the term 'silvopasture' before, but after researching it, I learned that it can really help sequester carbon and it looks nice too! Silva means 'forest' in Latin. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Christine Oryhan 4/09/2019 7:58 PMEating smaller portions will not only be better for the environment, it will also be better for my figure! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?
Christine Oryhan 4/09/2019 7:56 PMI plan on incorporating other "R's" into my lifestyle by repairing and repurposing items instead of throwing things away. Considering implementing these "R's" makes me feel resourceful! -
Christine Oryhan 4/08/2019 8:26 PMStarting to get the hang of this! Happy to learn that I can mark tasks completed from prior days if I miss a day (or 2 or 3!)
