REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Support Women-Owned BusinessesGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women? Can you share any past experiences that may help others take action?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:49 PMI can better support communities by supporting women by investing in women's businesses. It's important to support the endeavors and businesses of the women because many women invest their earnings in communities. Women also help educate their children and find many ways to support their communities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:46 PMThey are simpler to produce, have fewer moving parts and don’t use fossil fuels. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:42 PMI think North America's culture is accustomed to eating meat and it's a regular part of many people's lives. Several fast food chains offer and serve meat as well and it's an easy, fast, and cheap way for people to access food. I believe that there's a lot of room to change and people should advocate more about the benefits of vegetarian and vegan meals. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:40 PMI would rather use this sort of money to help with finding ways to reduce greenhouse gases. From researching about women's businesses, I learned about how important it is to support them and I think it would be a good use of money to invest in these businesses. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood CompostingProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:38 PMEnergy especially motivates me to change my behavior regarding food waste. By wasting food, resources that could have been used for other thing has also been wasted. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:35 PMI learned that wave and tidal energy facilities generate electricity without producing any greenhouse gases. Also, the power generated from wave and tidal energy systems has the ability to provide electricity for 25 percent of the United States. I was quite surprised that this power generated could provide electricity for 25 percent of the United States. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Communicate With My Elected OfficialsWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:33 PMThis challenge has definitely helped me become more inspired and eager to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues. These activities and all the research I've done for this challenge has helped provoke my interest in sustainable energy. I've found that there are so many sustainable alternatives that people could switch to, but many are unaware of them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Learn about Local Indigenous PracticesWhat did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?
Janice Seong 4/24/2019 5:31 PMI learned that the indigenous communities have long been the frontline of resistance against deforestation; mineral, oil, and gas extraction; and the expansion of mono-crop plantations. Their resistance prevents land-based carbon emissions, and maintains or increases carbon sequestration. Growing the acreage under secure indigenous land tenure can increase above- and belowground carbon stocks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation. I think that I can apply their frontline of resistance of deforestation and this can help reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emissions. I think having a home garden is a great and simple way of land management.
- Beyond carbon, indigenous land management conserves biodiversity, maintains a range of ecosystems services, safeguards rich cultures and traditional ways of life, and responds to the needs of the most vulnerable.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Public TransitHow has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Janice Seong 4/04/2019 8:28 PMI think the various types of transportation throughout my life has influenced me to take transportation for granted. Before I partook in this challenge, I was oblivious towards how much impact I could have on the impact of climate change just through transportation. Now that I'm more aware of the impacts of my actions, I try to find ways to find ways to carpool or use public transportation. -
Janice Seong 4/01/2019 8:27 PMI plan on addressing these problems in every way that I can. I plan on partaking in some of the activities that are part of the Drawdown Challenge such as eating meatless meals, keeping a log of the food I waste and trying to take the bus to school in order to reduce the amount of CO2 let out into the atmosphere. This way, I hope to influence those around me and to inspire myself to be more environmentally conscious. I also hope to find more ways to help out the environment and do things like setting up a compost bin and help others around me become more aware of climate change. And most importantly, I hope to strive in order to learn more and find more ways to improve the environment.
